Absorbers are typically soft and porous. They will
soak up sound reflected off hard surfaces. Sound gets
trapped in the material, loses energy and intensity
as it tries to find its way out. Too much reverberation
in a broadcast studio would diminish speech intelligibility
so the correct amount of absorption is crucial. These
absorptive products have an NRC number attached that
helps compare products that absorb better at certain
frequencies.
