LEED™

The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. Members of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) representing all segments of the building industry developed LEED and continue to contribute to its evolution. Tarkett is a member of the USGBC and supports improving green building efforts.

The LEED Rating System evaluates projects over 5 core and 1 bonus credit categories:

  • Sustainable Sites
  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy & Atmosphere
  • Materials & Resources
  • Indoor Environmental Quality
  • Bonus Credits for Process and Design Innovation

This rating system promotes integrated, entire building design practices and encourages awareness of green building benefits. Currently, LEED standards are available or under development for: LEED NC - new commercial construction and major renovations, LEED EB - existing building operations, LEED CS - core and shell projects, LEED H - homes and LEED CI - commercial interior projects.

The LEED rating system is a three-step process:

  1. Project Registration
  2. Technical Support
  3. Building Certification
The US Green Building Council announced the creation of the first voluntary national green building standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings – LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.
